Mary Alford, PE, LEED® AP

Engineer, Principal


Mary graduated from the University of Florida with a Masters of Engineering, specializing in Environmental Engineering and with additional background in Urban and Regional Planning and Process Engineering. After working in Water and Wastewater for Gainesville Regional Utilities, she moved to Progress Energy as an Environmental Analyst, then in Power Plant Operations Management, and finally in Power Plant Construction, managing environmental compliance.


Observing first hand the environmental cost of energy production led to a career change to energy optimization and sustainable building practices. Currently the managing principal of the Sustainable Design Group, Mary is the sustainability consultant for Brytan, where three homes were recently awarded LEED Silver Certification.

Jennifer Langford, AIA, CNU, PA, LEED® AP

Architect, Principal


Jennifer Langford has provided neighborhood and urban design through her company Jennifer Langford, AIA, CNU, PA as well as more traditional residential, commercial, mixed-use building design services since 2001. Jennifer graduated from the University of Florida, then studied at the University of Virginia for her Masters of Architecture with a specialty in New Urban Design. After graduation, she was quickly hired to assist in development of the award-winning Haile Plantation Village Center.


After licensure she developed her own firm, and has since amassed a respected and varied portfolio, in addition to serving as town architect for the Brytan TND, serving on the architectural review committee for Haile, and assisting local government in a facilitator role for urban infill projects.

Rafael E. Giro, MS, PE, LEED® Green Associate™



Ralph graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree. He continued his academic studies with an Associate of Science in Air Conditioning Technology from Miami Dade College and a Master of Science in Technology from Nova Southeastern University. His varied career has included engineering consulting, contracting, teaching and management positions as an employee and owner in the private and public sectors.


He utilizes his expertise in designing sustainable energy efficient & water conservation systems along with his other engineering duties. Ralph has achieved the highest level of National and Florida Energy Rater credentials which entitle him to perform Energy Ratings on residential and commercial buildings including building and duct leakage testing.


His passion has been to help others and improve our environment for future generations. He presently volunteers for Paynes Prairie State Park, local elementary schools, San Felasco State Park and helps raise money for local charities through his participation in the Gainesville Cycling Club and The Vette Set Corvette Club. He has been a Big Brother, President of Sav-A-Turtle of the Florida Keys and sponsored Recycling Clubs while teaching in Monroe County.

Nancey Jones, NCIDQ, LEED® Green Associate™

Interior Designer


Nancey is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Interior Design and a minor in Packaging Science. Nancey's past professional experience has included working with textiles (costume designer, sewing/quilting instructor), and computer lab software/hardware testing, training and management.


Sustainability and the building industry's impact on the environment are important factors in both her career and personal life, and she is actively working towards a goal of generating zero landfill waste and reducing energy & water usage at home and at work. She is also a Florida Water StarSM certifier and a member of her local USGBC Chapter.

Ian Lutticken

Engineering Technician


Ian spent eight years in the U.S. Air Force as a communications technician and supervisor. Active duty service helped him develop leadership skills and a healthy sense of humor. He also earned an Associate's Degree in Technology Systems and his Security+ Certification.


As an avid futurist Ian looks for any opportunity to work toward making the world a more chrome-plated and sustainable place. At the Sustainable Design Group, when he isn't making and consuming serious amounts of coffee or quoting Fight Club, he helps with system administration and engineering. He is also pursuing an HVAC technician certification and a mechanical engineering degree.
